ByteDance reportedly pauses global launch of its Seedance 2.0 video generator

ByteDance has paused plans to launch its new AI video mannequin globally, in line with a report in The Information.

The Chinese language firm, greatest generally known as TikTok’s dad or mum group (and now a minority shareholder in its U.S. spinoff), launched Seedance 2.0 in China again in February. Transient movies generated by the mannequin, together with a clip that includes Tom Cruise combating Brad Pitt, quickly went viral and drew intense criticism from Hollywood. 

Whereas one profitable screenwriter declared that the footage meant, “It’s probably over for us,” studios shortly despatched ByteDance a flurry of cease-and-desist letters, with Disney’s legal professionals accusing the corporate of a “digital smash-and-grab of Disney’s IP.” ByteDance responded by promising to introduce stronger safeguards for mental property.

The corporate had deliberate to make Seedance 2.0 out there globally in mid-March, The Info stated, however it’s delaying these plans as its engineers and legal professionals work to avert additional authorized points.

ByteDance didn’t instantly reply to TechCrunch’s request for remark.
