The Malaysian authorities has ordered the shutdown of a startup-centric neighborhood referred to as the Community College, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Billing itself as “a frontier neighborhood for techno-optimists,” the Community College reportedly grew out of entrepreneur and investor Balaji Srinivasan’s conviction that america is in irreversible decline; Srinivasan has stated his aim is “to start out a brand new nation.”

So the Community College is meant to signify step one in a seven-stage plan (outlined in Srinivasan’s book “The Network State”) for constructing a brand new society. Primarily based in an deserted Malaysian lodge, the WSJ described this system as “half tech incubator, half self-improvement retreat.” Attendees, nevertheless, complained about moldy rooms, in addition to a dearth of girls and nightlife.

After receiving questions from the WSJ, Srinivasan – who apparently renounced his American citizenship in 2023 — printed a lengthy post on X declaring himself “a proud Singaporean” and complaining that the WSJ was engaged on a “hit piece” that might make him appear like “an odd duck […] versus an early adopter.”

And though the present Malaysian campus will reportedly have to shut down attributable to licensing points, Srinivasan recently announced a brand new settlement for a campus in Kazakhstan.
