‘See in CMYK’ with Google Arts & Culture and the Exploratorium

The Exploratorium in San Francisco is a spot the place artwork, science and human notion come collectively. “See in CMYK” builds on Stefanie Posavec’s bodily mural, “A Four-Color Field,” initially commissioned for the Exploratorium’s Floor Area mural collection.

For over a century, the usual shade printing course of has used simply 4 primary inks — cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black) — to trick our brains into seeing hundreds of thousands of vibrant colours. Up shut, Stefanie’s mural is an intricate assortment of tiny, colourful symbols: cyan clouds, magenta lips, yellow suns, black cats. However from afar, the expertise transforms. Seen from a distance, these 1000’s of remoted icons soften collectively to create a singular giant picture of iconic California poppies.
